Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta and Oracle handed 9.3% of the cash their businesses made back to shareholders. That covers the first nine months of 2026. That is the smallest share in at least 15 years, down from 27.4% a year earlier.
Few people shop through outside AI agents yet, because the experience is not good enough, Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy told analysts on Thursday. He expects Amazon’s own assistant, Alexa for Shopping, to be the main agent people use to buy from the store.
Amazon’s free cash flow fell to minus $42.4bn over the 12 months to September. Spending on AI drove most of the drop, the company said on Thursday. A year earlier it was a positive $14.8bn.
