A federal judge in Mississippi has refused to throw out the NAACP’s Clean Air Act lawsuit against xAI. The case is over the gas turbines that power its Colossus 2 data centre. Judge Debra M. Brown ruled on Friday that the turbines are not exempt from air permits as “mobile sources”.

Salesforce has agreed to buy Rune Technologies. The US startup’s AI software helps the military plan supplies near the front line. Salesforce announced the deal on Thursday. Rune will join Missionforce, the defence business Salesforce launched a year ago. Salesforce did not disclose the price.
Baseten, the AI inference startup, is set to raise about $2bn at a valuation of up to $30bn, more than double its price in June. Rebecca Torrence and Bailey Lipschultz reported the round for Bloomberg on Friday, citing people familiar with the plans.

OpenAI has cut the target for its latest funding round by $10bn, to about $20bn. The Financial Times reported the cut on Friday 30 October, citing people with knowledge of the matter. Some investors reduced their commitments as AI stocks sold off, according to the report.
