In the space of a month, a new category of AI model went from nonexistent to everywhere. TypeSafe AI released Jev on September 15 and called it a System One model, a nod to Kahneman’s fast, intuitive thinking. OpenAI announced its own Decisions API at DevDay and opened a public beta on October 6.

CERN and French AI company Mistral signed a statement of intent on 15 October to build a “Large Physics Model“, which CERN calls the first foundation model for collider physics. It will be trained on simulated Large Hadron Collider data to help reconstruct and identify particles.
China’s commerce and science ministries proposed adding 23 AI technologies, including large models, agents, chip designs, and computing clusters, to the country’s export control list. Open-source tech is exempt and overseas users can still access models through apps.
