Cohere has completed the first close of its Series E round, which it aims to grow to as much as C$7bn. The Toronto AI company says that would value it at C$35.7bn. The Government of Canada is among the new investors.

Copilot daily users grew nearly 50% in the three months to September, Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella said. That is more than five times as many as a year earlier. Microsoft still did not say how many people pay for it, Jordan Novet reported for CNBC.

OpenAI has reorganised its Model Spec, the public rulebook for its AI, around five values led by faithfulness to human intent. It adds guidance on context and human agency, drops most style rules and renames the model GPT. OpenAI admits its models do not yet fully follow it.
Olivier Pailhès, who co-founded Aircall in Paris in 2014, has returned as its chief executive. He replaces Scott Chancellor and takes over a business phone company that now sells AI voice agents. Aircall announced the change on Thursday in a press release.
